Fursuit Safety
One of the most important topics for suiters, new or old. Safety! This is important to you, your suit, and everyone around you. Here are our tips on safety!
In General:
-DRINK WATER. Drink lots and lots of water! Do not drink soda, alcohol or sugary drinks thinking it will be ok, drink water! (Gatorade is good too!). Always stay hydrated!!!
-If you are drinking alcohol and having fun, please always be safe. Many suit while drinking, which is ok! But be safe, and be sure to still have water.
-If you are have an emergency, ask someone nearby for help immediately. If needed, "ruin the magic" and take your mask off. Do not risk yourself! If it is a dire situation, get help from anyone nearby, don't wait for a friend. Ask anyone for help!
-Try not to "marathon suit", meaning take breaks! You don't have to take your mask off for a break, but drink water, and use a fan to get cool air. (But we do recommend removing your mask and hands at least every break)
-If you start to feel weird, or ill, take a break or desuit right away. It could be heat exhaustion or heat stroke. Drink water, have a light snack, and desuit if feeling this way.
-If any piece of your suit is uncomfortable, notify your maker right away, see what can be done to fix it. Fursuiting should not cause pain!
-Make sure you get plenty of air flow in your suit, if you do not, take steps to improve it.
At Furry Cons:
-Be aware of your surroundings. Cons are always a busy place to be, so be sure you know of your surroundings. We recommend exploring the hotel and con space out of suit before going out in suit. Try your best to locate headless lounges while out of suit.
-Try to be with a friend at all times. Handlers are not needed at Fur Cons, but still safe to have a friend with you, even if they are in suit too.
-Be aware of the location of headless lounges! Drink lots of water before suiting, and while in headless lounge. Also be sure to drink lots of water after desuiting. Water is #1 in fursuit safety.
At Public Meetups or non-fur cons:
-NEVER GO ANYWHERE WITHOUT A HANDLER. If you will be in public in suit, never go alone. Never without a un-suited handler. It is just a rule, never leave your house alone in suit. You never know how the public will react to you, some can be violent, be sure to have someone there to protect you. Make sure this person is always alert, make sure it is a person you trust!
-Be aware of the people around you, if someone is looking to cause trouble, walk away, and if possible, alert an authority figure. Do not fight back.
-Always ask a business if it is ok to suit there before walking in, as they can call the police. Having a mask on can be a sign of theft or another crime. So show them your face and ask permission before entering their business. Or if you enter with it on, and they ask you to remove it or show your face, listen and do so. You can ask to take it off in a private area, but magic ruining may need to happen. Always listen to the owners of a business when suiting there.
